On December 20, 2009, we closed the doors to the Lakewood Phoenix Cafe for good. The very next morning, on the winter solstice, we opened the doors to the Root cafe. We host open mics, music and other events, offer delicious local and organic food and bakery, one of the widest tea selections in town, and freshly roasted coffee from Phoenix. More about us
architectural features
Our building is a historic gem with architectural and craftworking wonders! We were ecstatic to uncover the original features after the Phillips Vacuum store moved out, of which we added our own craftwork and character. From hand made tile on the walls, to hand made recovered wood chair rails, book case and benches, to the concrete counters, our space has become a work of art in and of itself. from the kitchen and bakery
We procure much of our food from local producers, some of it even from our friends backyards! Enjoy exotic heirloom varietals and in-season specialities with a contemporary twist. Our vegan baked goods are made to perfection and are often a pleasant surprise with their delicate and moist textures.

Our reputation as skilled baristas who take time to craft each drink will continue to grow as we have more space to perform our magic. Look for artisan teas from China, premium coffees from local roasters, Organic herbal teas and our famous seasonal beverage menu!
